Decades in the Making
The inspiration for Pathways Planning & Insights comes from decades of experience helping students and families make choices about education after high school. Mark Salisbury, Executive Director and Founder of Pathways, started in college athletics before working in admissions, financial aid, academic advising, and academic administration at five different colleges and universities. In 2019, he founded the TuitionFit project, empowering the public to create real college price transparency by crowdsourcing financial aid offers.
Challenging the Premise
Even though TuitionFit has helped thousands of families find college options that fit their price range, access to data alone couldn't overcome the conventional wisdom and higher ed marketing machine that convinced so many families to sacrifice their financial future for a brand-name present. In 2022, Dr. Salisbury founded Pathways Planning & Insights to help students, families, and educational organizations refocus the “how” and “why” of planning for education after high school, preserve financial flexibility in young adulthood, and recognize the wide range of educational pathways that can enable every student to reach their goals.
